1839 letter

A mud-stained letter (I’m assuming it’s mud. Did he carry this in his diary during the war, or what? No idea.) Ephraim has in the back flap of his diary dated June 2, 1839. I’ll try to transcribe it at some point. Words I can make out: militia, I have caused several copies of my book, if there is no impropriety in asking the question, it has seemed to me that some of the members would have no objection, with a circular letter from, can you ascertain this for me and let me know, I think this word may be considered a publishers, yours truly, Major Mason.
